Role play

ROLE PLAY SCRIPT

·         Holden: Well, Salinger I think that you base your book on your personal experiences so, which ones are in the novel?

·         Salinger: Yes you are right; the principal experience I represent in the novel is when I was asked to leave a New York prep school because of poor grades.

·         Holden: Really, that is very interesting, and that experiences have a relation in my creation… I mean, how did you represent your experience in the novel?

·         Salinger: I represent my experience in the novel by you, because both of us were expelled from school, and I also should mention that we both don’t feel comfortable with the society.

·         Holden: Yes, that is true because they kicked me out. I wasn't supposed to come back after Christmas vacation, on account of I was flunking four subjects and not applying myself and all, but let’s change the idea, why you create the novel?... I want to say the reasons of creating it and all.

·         Salinger: Because I like to write. I love to write. But I write just for myself and my own pleasure.

·         Holden: There was a personal influence in the creation of the novel?

·         Salinger: The principal influence I had in the creation of the novel was the shock that I got with my service in US army, in 1942, serving with a unit that saw heavy fighting as it carved its way from the D-day landings to Berlin, losing more men along the way than it had started out with.

·         Holden: So there are many references of your life in the novel that make me think that we may have similar personalities, could you tell me?

·         Salinger: Yes

·         Holden: In which aspects we are similar?

·         Salinger: As I told you in the beginning both of us feel out of the mass.

·         Holden: you say that both of us feel out of the mass and all... You are right, so I have a doubt, if we have similar personality we will have similar attitudes, right?

·         Salinger: Right, because like for example we both have the similar attitude, when I was betrayed and when you didn’t watch the school match, because we both get away.

·         Holden: Well Salinger I have to go, but I will like to ask you my last doubt, how are your beliefs shown in the novel?

·         Salinger: Ok, I will be brief with you, the main idea I shown in the novel is that I hate the liars and this idea is in the novel by you.

·         Holden: Yes that is true because I hate phony people.
